| | | | Complementary Therapies is the study of the prevention and treatment of health care problems using natural remedies and massage. Skills learned include: selecting appropriate forms of therapy, selecting approaches to health management and treatment, evaluating and interpreting a patient's emotional, psychological and physical states, monitoring progress of patients, practising professional responsibility in relation to individuals and the community. The main purpose of this field of study is to develop an understanding of the importance of diet, exercise and lifestyle factors which influence health and wellbeing, the use of natural substances and massage to heal disease, and professional responsibility in relation to individuals and the community. It also involves developing an ability to assess and evaluate clinical observations to arrive at diagnoses and determine appropriate courses of action.
