It includes the study of establishing, maintaining and managing vineyards, parks and gardens. Skills learned include: identifying pests, diseases and nutritional disorders in plants, designing, establishing and maintaining turf for various sport and recreational facilities, planting, pruning and maintaining shrubs and trees, propagating, cultivating and harvesting intensively managed crops. The main purpose of this field of study is to develop an understanding of the factors affecting plant propagation, growth and physiology and plant diseases, pests and weed control. It also involves developing an ability to utilise current horticultural and viticultural technology, techniques and practices.
